Most Painful Thing I Have Lived Through...

When people come to this website for the first time, they are appalled by what they read. They have understandable responses. The responses are the same as those on any other site or blog that discusses obese significant others. They think those of us who are dealing with an obese significant other are being shallow because we cannot love the person the “way he or she is.” I read those responses and I think, “Spoken like someone who isn't dealing with an obese spouse (girlfriend, boyfriend, etc.)” If they could walk a mile in our shoes, they would quickly be silent or perhaps join us in our mantra. By the time a person posts their feelings on this website, they are to the point of anger and they need to vent. They are trying not to vent at their obese significant other (and by this time, I am thinking I need to shorten that to OSO – Obese Significant Other). They love that person, and don't want to hurt his or her feelings. Where else is there to go? It is so easy to scold the angry person, and tell him or her she is the bad guy. Oh, but what emotions lie underneath the anger. I look at my OSO and what comes to me first is not a thought, but a deep, visceral reaction. I have worked for months to over come this reaction, and I cannot. I look, and cannot quell the repulsion that rises from somewhere primal within me. I am a woman, and my OSO is a man. What is repulsed by sight is confirmed through touch. Indeed, magnified through touch. His shape, with full hips, buttocks, and thighs, large belly and ample man boobs, is more comparable to a female than a male. I have no lesbian leanings. This repugnant tactile sensation causes me to recoil. I look at his form, as he
lay under the sheets, and what I see is a fat woman, not a man. When I hug him, its conjures childhood memories of my cuddling with my grandmother. There is no room for two in the tub or the shower, and if there were, I would not join him. When he rolls over in bed, its like the rolling of a whale. At night his breathing is the strained and loud. Breathing of a fat person. When he speaks, his double chin and jowls wobble. When he laughs, his belly undulates like the baffles of a waterbed. When he walks away, his back parts and the way he fits into jeans remind me of a large, loose-skinned elephant. His movements are awkward and comical.
On hot days, sweat drips from underneath his man boobs and wets his shirt. He tires easily from the least exertion. When he does too much work, his inner thighs become chaffed from rubbing
together. He wheezes. He eats like every meal is his first after a week of starvation. He talks about food with zeal, as if it were some great, amazing hobby and all the rest of us are interested. Literally everything in life is affected by his size, nothing is left untouched.
I haven't gotten to the bedroom yet. When we used to make love, he had to be partially clothed.
Looking at him turned me off so bad, he had to stay covered up. We have not ever made love, skin to skin. We have not rolled and tumbled like lovers do. When we spoon, I get a big belly in my back. You can imagine how awkward certain positions are. And I could not bring myself to be on top because the view is so bad. I cannot even look at his face surrounded by all that fat pooling around it. I used to want it only when I was really horney. Now I don't want it at all. Its sad, because he is a very attentive lover who is technically good in bed and cares about my orgasm. But I like active, reciprocal sex and cannot bring myself to pleasure him. I never want to stick around afterward and hold him, there is nothing about his body I like. It harps at my mind that I ignore the little signals he sends out that lets me know he wants sex or to be affectionate. It makes me feel guilty that there is nothing on his body I long to caress when he
comes home after being away. It does not matter any more how well he treats me, how kind he is, how helpful he is around the house. It no longer matters how much money he makes. The energy about him and around us that always used to be there still there. These all become horrible teasers. I get turned on by his personality and have no where to go with it in an intimate expression .I can not bond with him. This is absolute hell on earth. His wonderful aspects and personality only make me resent his obesity more.. Now when I think of him, my mind instantly goes to that fat body and that sunken feeling sets in. There is no excitement of anticipation in the thought of him anymore. Its been swallowed up in fat. . I will always manage to find someone I can talk well with, like I do with him. This is called a friend. We have discussed marriage, and I do not want to have a marriage with just a friend. I want a
lover. I no longer have one in him. I cannot bring myself to marry someone I want to change or who I am not 100% crazy about. And I battle feelings of guilt over the fact that what would restore my being in love with him would be if he lost weight. Indeed, I will always love his person, but I cannot be IN love with him and his fat anymore. My parents think he's great. He has a wonderful personality. My boys wonder when we are going to get married. The neighbor drops hints about it. Most people find him engaging, helpful, smart, witty, etc. He is perfect in every way. I just would have to be okay with a marriage that had no intimacy, for the second time. Dont they see what I am dealing with? None of them have OSO's. None of them get it. Now when I think of him, I grieve the lost future. Whether I stay with him or not, the future I dreamed of is gone. Don't look forward to it. I have such disappointment. Simple things that bind me to him don't exist. Simple things that elevate the relationship to love and not just roommates dont exist. No long walks, no cuddling on the couch as we watch TV, no sex initiated by me, no adoring looks and flirting caresses. No dancing or going to the beach. No feeling proud to be with him in public. My attraction is waning, fast becoming zippo. The disappointment is crushing. I have to admit I can no longer compensate for or fake my way through the feelings I have in response to his body. Even a few hours alone with him has become agonizing. He has no idea all this is going on in me. The lack of power over any of it is depressing. I grow more despondent and immobilized by bleakness daily. We have talked about it a few times, his weight and its affect on me. I dont understand how obese people can live their lives unaware that their looks and way of life, (indeed, fat is a lifestyle, not just a size) is a turn off to those of us who are not. He acts surprised that I cannot be the intelligent,
deep, adult and accept him for who he is. He does not see the sedentary, food centered and fat-related complaints for the turn offs they are. He has been this way so long. He used to be an athletic, handsome, energetic person. I am being supportive, but its wearing on me. I have enough to deal with being a single mom. I am also angry at the things the food industry has added to our food that attributes to obesity in our country. It adds fat, tricks the hunger signals, turns off satiety signals: I was born in 1962, and as a child do not recall seeing many fat people- anywhere. That was when food was food, for the most part, and not chemicals and processed goo. , I am a divorced 47 year old woman who passes easily for 37, or even younger. This man was my HS sweetheart. We hooked up after talking on the phone for months. I was not prepared for his size when we first met. I felt guilty over my initial reaction to him and have been trying to over come it ever since. Its hell to get along with someone perfectly in every area but one. He is trying to loose the weight, but has plateaued at 265 or so for months. He used to be 320. I have known him for almost 3 years. What will he look like when all the weight is gone? The thought of all that loose skin frightens me too. I have memories of us and what we used to do when we were young, and he is not that person anymore. I miss those things and I am afraid they never will be again. This is killing me. His devotion to me almost makes me sick because I am to the point where I can no longer return it. We dont have any children together, but my sons know him and love him more than their own dad. So, in a way I am stuck. What hurts the most is that I feel denied that wonderful obsessive, crazy, “cant keep my hands off you” honeymoon period that most people have when they hook up with someone they love. I did
not have that after my first marriage. The abuse started too soon, it messed up my trust, and I was too stupid to leave. For me, life has been very ironically cruel. If there is a God who overlooks our affairs and wants whats best for us, he has a terrible sense of humor in expressing it. I came out of a bad marriage looking for love. I thought I had found it again, only to realize I am going from one man I cannot touch, to another one. One long, sexless relationship to another. (First husband was normal weight, but abusive). I never thought, among all the things I have had to deal with in life up till now, that I would ever experience love with an obese person. It has been undeniably the most painful thing I have ever lived through. So when newbies come to this site, they have no clue what really lies beneath the surface
of the anger. Perhaps I have helped, in my own way, them to understand.
And now I have put my innermost thoughts and emotions here for the public to read. It
cheapens them, since I know the picking apart that will happen in subsequent comments. Fire away.
Those who are saying it cannot be done are interrupting those who are already doing it.

I was the Fat One

I was the fat one. My wife is HOT. 5' 3" 105 lbs.

I was always skinny until I settled into my office job. I got up to 220lbs at 6'0". Not fat? Hardly. 25% BMI.

You can rationalize anything until you look honestly at yourself naked in the mirror.

I did and then asked myself if I wanted to be a fat guy or not. Being lazy by nature it was an honest questions. I seriously weighed the pros and cons of being lazy and fat (more time for video games, less pain, etc) and healthy and fit (working out, not eating whatever I wanted, etc)

My decision ultimately was, "NO! I don't want to be a FAT GUY!"

I got a personal trainer to teach me how to work out and lose weight. I got free weights and an elliptical. Get sensible about what I ate. And I'm a trim 185lbs now.

The best thing is the sex. My wife loves my hard body and literally can't keep her hands off me. It's better than when I was skinny because the muscles turn her on, and frankly me too. I'm still a little surprised in the shower when I soap up my shoulders because they're so much bigger than I'm used to.

Make yourself a 12 week commitment for a better body. Eat right 6 out of 7 days a week. DO an HOUR of cardio every day. Treadmill burns the most calories, but I think eliiptical is almost as good and is certainly easier on your joints. And lift weights to build muscle. Muscle BURNS calories so bigger muscles mean faster fat loss.

YOU CAN DO IT.

I love her spirit, not her body

To the creators of this site - you have my eternal thanks. I was a lurker for several months before joining, and my motivation was the desire to have a place to come to share my frustration about the woman whose spirit I love, whose body I don't.

A little background. When we met, I was 5'9" about 180 lbs. I worked out about 4 times a week (not little sissy workouts either) for about an hour. My wife was 5'5" about 145 lbs., very Sisterly figure as we used to say around the way, and she used to work out too. To be honest, since then I've balooned up to 220lbs, and she's now in the 200 lbs neighborhood. Difference between me and her is that I still feel confident. When I go out with my boys (which is maybe once every 2 months) I get my fair share of attention from women. But I'm married, so that's a no no.

She feels horrible about her weight, and I've tried everything. We've got about $1K of unused exercise equipment in our basement, she's joined Jenny Craig and Weight Watcher and hasn't followed through on either of their plans. It frustrates me because we're spending money on things she's not using to address her weight problem.

And her weight drives her depression and bad eating habits. And her depression reinforces her weight issues. And it;'s no fun living in the eye of that cyclone.

And damn do we argue alot. Makeup sex is good, but otherwise I'm not really feeling her physically. The woman I love is in there, surrounded by all this fat that repulses me.

Even though I see women around that are more appealing, I'm still married so I don't act on it. What I am starting to do is recreate more of the life I had when we met - reading more, going out with friends and exercising again.

But so much of what I miss about her we can't do because her body won't allow her to do. Like the song by Musiq Sould Child "Damn, I just want my friend back!"

Hoping he will be asleep by the time I get home...

I've just stumbled across this site and I feel like FINALLY!!! Somewhere I can say the things I really think without feeling like a total s**t.

Im a very fit and athletic woman. I enjoy exercising for exercise sake but i also like to keep in shape. When I met my partner (not married but together 4 years - is that cheating?), he wasnt intentionally physically active but he worked renovating houses which is obviously quite physical and this kept him in good shape.

However in the last year or so business has taken off and he now hires people to do the renovations so his weight has slowly crept up. Further, my work involves a lot of travel abroad and most recently I was away for almost 6 months (with the occasional long weekend home). When im home, we eat quite healthily as i do most of the shopping and cooking but when i was away he ate out constantly and lived on take aways, junk food and beer. In this time alone, he has gained approximately 20 pounds and in total in the last year probably about 35 pounds.

He's quite tall so you'd think he may be able to carry it off but unfortunately it seems to have all gone to his belly and, dare i say, breasts! Yes, my partner now has man-boobs!

I have tried a few subtle hints, even signing us both up to a new gym just opened locally but he jokingly laughs off his new-found bosom; he actually calls them 'the girls!' If i was around long enough i could possibly gain some ground by restricting what he eats but unfortunately in another two months i have an assignment away.

I actually feel physically repulsed by him, and i am so ashamed to admit that. Unfortunately it manifests itself in irritability at everything he says or does and we bicker constantly about the smallest things. I have found I have began to stay out late with friends or colleagues hoping he will be asleep by the time I get home so we do not have to have sex. Ive told a few good friends but they think im overreacting or being terribly shallow and I also feel like I cant tell them the full extent of my disgust at it would be a betrayal to our relationship.

I'm not saying people cheat cause their partner gets fat, but...

Most married couples don't maintain hot sex lives. I know this because every married couple I've ever met is shocked that my husband and I seem to still be in the "honeymoon phase" apparently to them the honeymoon phase means physical affection and evidence of mutual sexual attraction. Also 61% of Americans are either obese or overweight.

I'm not saying people cheat cause their partner gets fat, but come on, the numbers aren't really that far out of line with that possibility. Though I'm sure it's far more complex than that.

Some people can't and shouldn't be monogamous. They've allowed themselves to get into a social agreement that goes against who they are as people, what is required for those people is honesty and perhaps opening the relationship.

For people who want to be monogamous and aren't just under social pressure to be so, then a bad sex life is often the reason a partner goes to get sex somewhere else on the side. That would be the most practical reason for introducing a new sexual partner into their life. Don't you agree?

The level of emotional attachment between partners in an affair is kind of a non-issue, since not all people can have sex detached completely from emotion, and sooner or later most people develop some emotional attachment to the person or persons they are physically intimate with.

But I would venture to say, and I could always be wrong, but I would say statistically, except for those cases where the desire to be monogamous isn't genuine, a couple who has a hot sex life isn't looking elsewhere.

Most human beings have other goals in life besides just sex. If you have a hot sex life with your partner and you have any type of career ambition at all and any free time to yourself, chances are good you don't want to fill it with yet another responsibility.

Relationships are complicated. They become even more complicated when an affair is added to the mix. This is more energy than most people really want to devote and if they were happy at home, they wouldn't be devoting it.

I know this from personal experience not just theory. I was the sole confidant of a friend who had an affair, and I myself was temporarily in an open relationship. The level of energy it takes to maintain two relationships on the sexual level is insane. Especially if it's open (I kind of understand the secret part of affairs because its way too much energy to have to constantly reassure your partners you aren't leaving them for the other.)

Mojo Makes it Happen

About a little more than two years ago I was still holding onto hope that my situation would improve. My wife and I had been separated several times, but somehow always managed to get back together-usually after making promises of trying harder to give up the countless carbs and tons of sugar and ice cream. Then suddenly, and out of the blue she just gave up-threw her arms up and quit! No, not just quit-she told me under no uncertain terms that she was tired of trying to lose weight, that it was too hard, that she liked carbs, sugar, ice cream, cheese, and fatty foods and the way they all made her feel, that they made her feel good and she needed that, and she wasn’t going to try to stop eating anymore; and if I didn’t like it, that was just too bad-that I could get a divorce because she was never gonna change and she just couldn’t understand why I couldn’t just love her unconditionally the was she was. So that’s when I threw in the towel and filed for divorce. She later told me that she didn’t think I would seriously do it, until the day she was served the papers.

Fast forward-about six months after the divorce while visiting a friend I bumped into a gorgeous gal. It was like a bolt out of the blue-love at first site! I had never felt anything quite like it before except for maybe my first true love when I was sixteen(I almost married her when she turned 18, but her parents had other plans.) I had been casually dating since the divorce, but I honestly thought it would take several years to find someone I would be able to marry. Anyhow, the rest is as they say, history. We were married  several months ago and both are quite happy. We are still in the honeymoon phase, but I think we are both fairly well grounded in the marriage. Of course, we each have our own peculiarities, but we are so much alike in so many ways-it just plain works. What is really wonderful is that I now have a spouse who “gets it.” She understands me and she knows why I divorced my ex(My ex made certain of that, as she had to tell my bride rather bluntly, “He divorced me for no other reason than I just got fat!”. Boy, was my ex surprised when my bride told her she already knew that and had no problem with it, because she knew what it took to make a man happy and she was willing to do what it takes-namely, to take care of herself.)

I wish I could tell you that it was all a bed of roses, but that would be a lie. divorce is never really easy, especially when kids are involved, but I can honestly say that for the first time in a very long time I am truly happy. I have a few more years before my youngest child will be out of the house, so there re bound to be concerns. About the only regret I have presently is that I didn’t do the divorce sooner. I really don’t think I did my children any favors by delaying the inevitable as long as I did. They later admitted to me that they knew all along that their mother and I had been having problems for a long time and that we were basically staying together just for them. The hardest part is not being physically close(in distance) to them as I was before my remarriage. So maybe, it would have been better to have waited to remarry for the sake of my children? I don’t know. Sometimes though, before you can properly take care of others, you need to first take care of yourself.

Presently, I suppose I’m feeling a little like Jean Valjean from Les Misérables who’s prison sentence was nearly the same length as my term in fat hell-almost 20 years. Not that my entire marriage was a living hell, there were many happy memories too-my children, for instance. But, I sometimes wonder how it might have been more joy filled had I not had to deal with the addictions with which my wife suffered and struggled so greatly. It certainly would be a different tale to tell-It probably would not have ended in divorce. Though, this is not the end, only a new beginning. Well, at least for me it is.

Now, for those who struggle with these things, if you be the one who suffers, the spouse of an obese partner, you have my empathy-and if you be the obese spouse-my sympathy.  I think I can speak for a few others hear as well, you have theirs too. I would not like to see any divorce, with but few exceptions. Marriage can be hard enough on its own, however, gluttony and obesity are matters that weigh on the relations between a man and a woman in ways which no other can. If sex is to be the barometer of a healthy marriage as some have advocated, then I can think of little else within the control of most sane adults that could be more damaging and damning than willfully allowing oneself to become obese to the degree in which natural sexual relations become greatly frustrated, or nearly impossible altogether.

This is a great problem that is plaguing much of the world, affecting millions. The solutions appear to be rather plain to most who are educated in these matters, however, those choices that must be made on a daily, even a constant bases, apparently are not so easy for many. I would add that I think choices themselves are not so difficult, rather it’s the “doing” part that seems to cause many grief. So, the way may not be easy-only it will be worth it. Unfortunately, it is often a hard thing to accept the fact that with it comes to obesity within a marriage, or any relationship for that matter, the ultimate responsibility is on each individual. It took me many years to finally get that-that I could not make my wife eat better, or exercise, or even loose one single ounce of fat-that ultimately, in the end it was her choice. The only power I had, other than offering my support, was deciding what I was going to do about the situation.

Now you know the rest of the story(or at least the juicy part), but it’s not over yet by any means. Life will go on just as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, but where we are when it does largely depends on the choices we make today.

Very obese wife wants me to still be attracted to her.

My wife is really obese and I am no longer attracted to her physically.  There I said it.  It feels good just to say it and not worry about how it will make her feel.  I have been reading the post on this site for weeks now and I want to post my story as well.  Maybe I will get some brilliant advice but it just feels good to finally say it.  I have been married for 15 years.  We have two beautiful children and a pretty good life.  I have a good job and my wife works part time.  Since we have been married my wife has steadily put on weight.  I gained weight with her and got really fat also but decided to change about 3 years ago.  I currently crossfit and follow and primal/paleo style of eating.  I have a very athletic build weigh about 185lbs at 5’11”.  My wife will not even tell me her weight.  She is 5’3” and I can only guess about 225lbs.  Like all marriages we have had our ups and downs but we seem to have a good relationship.  My issue is I am not attracted to the very obese woman she has become.  She is aware of this and is constantly questioning me about why I do not instigate sex or want to have sex more often.  Recently I finally admitted it was because of her weight and she was very hurt.  Her response was she can’t believe she is married to someone who cares so much about appearance.  I tried to explain that it is only natural.  It is in our genes to be attracted to fit people.  I have tried to encourage her to make some changes and exercise.  I am not expecting her to look like a fitness model or even anything close.  I just cannot get turned on by her physically.  We have discussed this recently a few times.  I even began packing her lunch to help.   I make her breakfast everyday and do lots of things to encourage her to eat better.  She still finds ways to go eat mountains of chocolate or ice cream or sugared up snacks.  She talks about wanting to exercise but she has been talking about doing that for many years.  I really want her to make a change.  I want her to be healthy and a normal weight.  When we first met she did not work out but she looked good.  We were in our early twenties and her body was curvy and sexy.  I love this woman so much.  She is such a good mom and a fantastic person.  She is very smart and so easy to talk too.  We have so much good together that I just cannot understand why she does not want to change.  She makes up some really poor excuses also for not changing.  I am worried we will be divorced but I am refusing to budge anymore.  She tries to initiate sex often lately and I turn her down which must be really hurtful and a huge blow to her ego.  What really makes me angry is she tells me I should not care how she looks.  You know the same old crap we see, read, or hear in the public about for better or worse and if you truly loved her it would not matter.  That is all crap and she knows it.  It is just an excuse.  When I lost weight and got fit she could not keep her hands off of me.  I have abs and muscles all over me and I see other women looking when we go to the pool or just in public.  I have always been a handsome guy but when I was fat no one looked.  I don’t what to do at this point.  I have told her how I feel and that she needs to really change and stop being so selfish.  I have told her that this lifestyle choice is harming our marriage, our children and her health.  So far she has done nothing.   The worst part of it is that is always so tired.  I remember being like that.  She never has energy to do anything and then has the nerve to ask me why we never do anything almost like she is blaming me.  I love her dearly but I know if I continue to be firm we may end up divorced which I do not want.  Oh and she does not have to clean the house.  I have a house keeper and she only works a part time job of 20 hours or less a week.  She does not have any excuses.  I just think she is very content with her situation and does not want to change it.  Several years ago when I was working full time and going to college full time I know she was thinking about divorce.  She began going to the YMCA with a friend and dropped 25 lbs very quickly.  Once I finished school and reconciled our marriage she has gained all the weight back and I lost 51 lbs.  I know she can do it but for some reason chooses not to do this.  Your advice is welcome.

Here's what my husband said to motivate me

I am new here and am writing my story to possibly help people approach their overweight spouses.

Growing up, I was always the athletic girl. Stronger and faster than just about everyone in school and I took a great amount of pride in that. I was a gymnast and my life revolved around diet & athletics. After gymnastics, I went on to high school & college cheer leading. Then, in my junior year of college, I became pregnant... whoa was I in for a change.

What happens to your body when your pregnant is quite scary! Especially when you basically go from eating nothing and exercising all day, to eating like a normal person and no exercise. At the end of the pregnancy, I was left with 50 pounds on me. I became extremely depressed and didn't come out of that depression for 11 years. Today, I have 4 boys and am still 60 pounds heavier than I was before my first child.

My husband is and always has been athletic as well. We've been together since we were 16, which was 15 years this year. He is a bmx bike rider and works out daily. My weight has always been a source of resentment in our relationship. I can see it in the way he looks at me, and it hurts. But, when you're depressed, it's hard to find the strength from within to get off your ass and do something about it. He would nag me, holdout on sex, put me down, believe me he tried everything and nothing worked. I rebelled against anything he had to say about my weight. Let me tell you what he said that changed it all for me.

Recently, we separated because of marital stress. We were separated for 5 weeks, however still spent time together because of the kids. One evening over a few drinks he said to me, "Do you want to know how I really feel about you." Of course I answered, "Yes." He went on to tell me that he wasn't attracted to me anymore. That sometimes having sex actually disgusted him. Of course I was hurt, but I knew in my heart that he felt this way all along. I was disgusted my myself so why shouldn't he be? He went on to tell me that he loved me, but he wanted to have sex with a hot chick again. THAT WAS IT. At that point I realized that if I didn't become that hot chick, someone else would fill the position for me and there was no way that was going to happen!

Since that day, my life has been about renewing my sense of pride. I work out daily & watch what I eat. What do you know, I've actually lost weight! I know a lot of people will say that my husband is a superficial jerk telling me these things, but not me. I thanked him for it, because it was just what I needed to jumpstart a new life.

How you react to your spouses feelings is a choice. You have to be at a point where you're ready to accept what he/she says. As I said, all other attempts (over 11 years) were met with defiance on my part. I think my acceptance had a lot to do with the way he said it. I took it as encouragement. He believed that I could become hot again, and told me so. I didn't believe that in myself, and to hear him say it meant more than anything.

I am absolutely, 110% doing this for myself. His benefit is a byproduct . I just needed a little encouragement to believe that this was a solveable problem.

Hope that wasn't too boring and good luck with your spouses.

He has not touched me in almost 3 yrs!!!

Hi! I am semi new here I used to lurk on the site before it went down. I'm happy to see your up and running again. I am going crazy and I want to try and understand what has happened to my marriage.  I am dying inside because of it. My husband of almost 15 yrs doesn't want sex. I am too fat for him ( 4 11 1/2 and now 189.5lbs... -17lbs) and while I am losing weight for a myriad of reasons it does include him. I am not an ugly girl but I want to just sit and cry- there is NO intimacy. He just doesn't get it. He doesn't understand my need and makes me feel like  nympho if I just even touch him. I hurt over this. I love him! We are THE best of friends yet I feel quilty over wanting intimacy! Can you guess where my self esteem is??? The toilet.

He has not touched me in almost 3 yrs!!! Before that (on my BD) he gave me what I would call "mercy sex". Nothing for *me* mind you... just the wham bam and I should just be happy. Before that one incident it had been over 18 months. In our marriage we have barely ever had sex - esp the last 10 years or so. I have 2 kids with him 7 and 8 but God must have done miracles because it was only great timing that led to those.

I worry that he will still keep this up even if I go through the pain of losing wieght. I keep hoping it will change! I want a love life - it is not even just about sex. I want to feel loved, adored and cared for. Am I asking too much? Anyone else out there feeling fat and ugly because of this? I look at even larger girls and wonder... is she getting loved? Does every man who is upset about his wife's weight refuse to have sex with her? Refuse affection? What is wrong with me???

Obese boyfriend? I'm too young for this!

I came here by accident and ended up responding to a thread about the sex life of obese men.

I understand most people here are men disgruntled by their wives' weight - from what I saw, most of you had kids and are well into their adult lives.

I'm not. I'm 24, I'm 5'10 and 170 pounds. Not an ideal weight, but it's still going down slowly. I was a normal child, and due to some sexual abuse when I was young, my weight shot up from 130 to 240 between 15 and 17. It was a body armor, shielding me from men. At around 20 I got to 170, and I hover between 150 and 170 now, depending on the season (I'm a lot more active during winter - hockey).

So 4 years ago I reached a decent weight, allowing me to have a decent silhouette and plenty of energy. I met this great guy who had a little meat on his bones, 6'1 and 220/230 - active, played hockey with me, softball, had a job that made him move around a lot.

4 years later and he's settled in nicely at... heck I don't know, last time we bought pants for him they were a 42 waist. Around 290 I'd say? He refuses to get on a scale. Enough that sex is difficult, mechanically. I feel frustrated, lonely and I'm looking at the passage of time and not enjoying my current life.

He's got horrible eating habits that he's not even aware of. I've taken a habit of asking him, are you hungry or are you bored when he eats between meals. He's always hungry. I'm tired of sleeping on the couch. I'm tired of having The Talk every month with him saying Yes Dear and the changes only sticking for a week. I get to a point where seeing him eat irks me, seeing him drink beer irks me, seeing him period irks me. I don't believe in crash diets, so I think he should be able to have a beer every now and then, or a bowl of baked chips watching hockey - but even then...

If it's not a steamed veggie, I can't bear the sight of him eating, which means we don't eat together. So we don't eat together, we don't have sex, we don't even sleep in the same bed since I've retreated to the couch... Man I'm 24. Why the **** do I put up with this...

We're not married (neither of us believes in marriage), but we do live together and I've moved out for a year already (and came back). I'm not gonna play that game forever - but this man is my best friend. He's smart, sensitive, funny, honest, open - he's great looking under that layer of fat. There was a time where he made me feel alive.

I cook well, lots of veggies, lots of fiber, lean meats - not much oil or sugar or starch. When I do bake dessert, it's always some sort of natural thing sweetened with everything but sugar. I look at his diet (that I've planned!) and I see nothing wrong with it (amounts to 2k calories a day and less than 30% from fat). So he's sneaking food, or throwing out his lunch at work to go eat out with coworkers. He's got an office job now so he's not moving at all during the day.

My job makes me move around a lot, so I exercise only twice a week in summer (badminton and softball). In winter I play hockey 3-4 times a week. We're always walking everywhere, and yet he's not losing the weight. I'm also a part-time student, so I don't have the time to exercise with him more.

I don't get it. I don't get how my best friend who I thought was the man of my life became this fat slob who sits around playing Halo 3 for hours and doesn't move until he's ordered to. Which works! But I hate being the wicked witch with the karmic taser gun... He has no self-esteem, positive reinforcement works until I stop doing it - and I'm tired, TIRED of always trying to motivate him. I have issues that I need to work on too! Permanent change seems... unlikely at this point. I don't wanna become the food nazi. I want him to want better health, better sex, better love.

Confusion and loneliness. Woot.

Thirty Pounds Overweight

I'm in a LTR with a guy who is about 30 lbs overweight.  I've read some of the posts.  Compared to what I've read this is no big deal, right?  Well, it is when you're not sexually attracted to him anymore.  When we first met he was an elite athlete (national team level) and I was also a very competitive athlete in the same sport.  12 years later I'm still the same weight and very fit.  He weighs at least 30 lbs more and has lost muscle mass.  He's got a big belly, moobs and no upper body fitness.  He stills gets some exercise, but his diet and eating habits are horrendous.  I try to have healthy stuff to eat at home, but he basically eats nothing all day, then gorges himself at dinner and snacks on crap at night.  He thoroughly understands nutrition but fails to practice good habits.  I am not really interested in sex with him and his big belly and moobs.  I've entertained the idea of having sex outside the relationship, but that's not really right for me at this time.  I still have home that he may decide to be healthier in the future.  I make a lot of money and take good care of myself.  We have a good relationship for the most part, but now my resentment of his lack of responsibility to our relationship is turning me sour.  I'm in my early 40s.  I'm scared I'm going to wake up with his even fatter gut in 10 years and wonder where the time went.  I really want to be in a sexually healthy relationship.  I feel like a part of my identity is missing when I avoid sex because I'm not attracted to him.  Just look at our entertainment...it's ok and even expected for a guy to allow himself to be dumpy even when his wife/girlfriend is quite fit and attractive.  Ah, it feels so good to vent!

A Sexy Way to Tell That Certain Someone to Lose Weight

My chubby hubs knows I think he's got a fat gut and I don't like it. But I never told him how it turns me off. I didn't want to devaste him sexually, but I feel if he knew, he might be motivated to lose it. It's a growing problem, for both of us! It's in the way!

Last night we lay in bed, he was feeling frisky, but I didn't realize it until we hit the sack. Of course, I wasn't at all frisky. That led to him saying he can't always tell when I want sex, and doesn't know what to do to turn me on. So I told him I'd make a list of a dozen or so things that he could do to heat things up, IF he'd do the same for me. He had to make a list too.

On my list, I wrote:
1. talk with me
2. ask me to go on a walk
3. shoulder massage!
4. kisses
5. go out somewhere, anywhere, together
6. compliment me
7. tell me you love me
8. hugs are nice
9. hugs with ass groping too
10. cuddling works
11. SERIOUSLY work on losing weight (because hugging and cuddling will be even nicer)

Then I drew a little heart so he knew I wasn't being sarcastic.

I smiled, gave him my list, and told him I loved him. He read it later, and I didn't hear a peep about it... but... he didn't have seconds at dinner tonight, and instead of buttering up 2 slices of rye breadfor his coffee, he took his coffee and got out of the kitchen. Surprise, surprise! We'll see how it goes, but I'm hopeful.

I thank you for your website and forum. I discovered it just this morning and it gave me the "permission" I neededto do this. A lot of my anger comes from seeing him sabatoge himself by overeating and doing wimpy workouts. I take it personally. I think if he at least TRIED, I could be encouraging rather than bitch and nag.

But now I do have to nag him to make a list for me.
